  1. ¶3    GREENPEACE FOR COMPUTER USERS

  3. ¶2From  the  Danish  newspaper "Praestoe

  7. ¶1Erik  Loevendahl  Soerensen, at number
  8. 10  Snaphanevej,  Praestoe, Denmark is
  9. looking  forward to the EEC making its
  10. mind  up  on  unified  rules  for data
  11. security.
  12.  
  13. Several  countries  currently  have no
  14. legislation at all in this area, but a
  15. committee  is  working  right now on a
  16. proposal  for  the  harmonisation  and
  17. strengthening  of  regulations on data
  18. security.
  19.  
  20. On  the  committee are representatives
  21. of  the private computer users' inter-
  22. national    organisation,   Safe   Hex
  23. International,     of    which    Erik
  24. Loevendahl   Soerensen  is  the  prime
  25. mover.    SHI  can  be  likened  to  a
  26. computer  users'  Greenpeace, which is
  27. trying  to  keep the environment clean
  28. and free of viruses and pollution.  It
  29. is,   according   to  Erik  Loevendahl
  30. Soerensen, a growing problem.

  32. "If a user puts a 'polluted' disk into
  33. his  computer,  the computer can break
  34. down.   The problem is serious because
  35. the  number  of  computer  viruses  is
  36. quadrupling  annually  at the moment",
  37. says  Erik  Loevendahl  Soerensen, who
  38. believes  that  the number of computer
  39. viruses   will   reach   uncomfortable
  40. proportions in just a few years.

  43. ¶3       OVER THE WHOLE WORLD

  45. ¶1SHI now has 20 centres the world over,
  46. where computer users can get free help
  47. over  the phone.  When Erik Loevendahl
  48. began  to  collect computer viruses it
  49. was    the    first    step   in   the
  50. international  organisation  which  is
  51. led  from Praestoe.  They were sent to
  52. talented  programmers  all  round  the
  53. world who make virus killers.
  54.  
  55. "Since  then  things  have happened so
  56. fast  for the organisation that we can
  57. hardly  keep up", says Erik Loevendahl
  58. Soerensen,  who  has  nothing  against
  59. contacting  people on social security,
  60. or  the  unemployed,  who are "just as
  61. computer mad as himself".

  63. Besides, Erik Loevendahl Soerensen has
  64. just  been  praised for his great work
  65. in  combatting computer viruses at the
  66. award  ceremony  for  the  Danish Data
  67. Security  prize.   Besides  collecting
  68. and  warning  private  computer owners
  69. against   viruses,   Erik   Loevendahl
  70. Soerensen has written several articles
  71. on  the subject for publications, both
  72. at home and abroad.
